Peter King Republican Congressman of New York tells the media to stop covering “low-life” Michael Jackson and start talking about the sacrifices of average citizens like police officers, firefighters and teachers.
Rep. King makes some interesting points about media coverage & the glorification of celebrities, yes the the Buzz really said that, pretty open minded huh? considering this blog covers celebrities!
We agree that the contributions of everyday people like teachers, soldiers, firefighters are extraordinary and should be celebrated, however, our agreement with King stops there.
King is very narrow minded & short-sited in his commentary. Consider this post from our partner Hip Hop Spy, “Our grief shows Michael’s star power transcends gender, culture, race, geography & age.”
The global reaction to Michael Jackson’s death shows Michael’s contributions united the real people “aka the firefighters, teachers, shop keepers” of our world, across cultures, races, generations and countries in a way no government can ever hope to do.
