Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Several advertisers won’t run ads on Fox News Channel’s “The Glenn Beck Program” after complaints by viewers.

The complaints followed a recent incident in which Beck said President Barack Obama is a “racist” who has a “deep-seated hatred for white people,” The Huffington Post reported Tuesday.

ColorOfChange.org, an organization that advocates for black Americans, urged members to contact advertisers and urge them to pull ads from Beck’s highly rated TV show.

The Huffington Post report said NexisLexis-owned Lawyers.com, Procter & Gamble and Progressive Insurance have agreed not to advertise on the show.

ColorOfChange.org said it received an e-mail from John Michaels, senior communications manager

at LexisNexis, saying the company has “suspended further advertising during Mr. Beck’s program.” Progressive Insurance Media Director Linda Harris said the company’s advertising order with Fox News Channel “specifies no Glenn Beck.”

Procter & Gamble said placement of its ads on the show had been an error and said it would be corrected, the report said.

The Huffington Post also said S.C. Johnson, which makes such products as Pledge, Ziplock and Off!, said it would not run ads on the show.

Okay – I get the ban but I gotta vent a little.

The Buzz joined other outraged blogs asking advertisers to take a stance against Perez Hilton’s nomination by FOX in a category of the Teen Choice Awards, we got NO traction.

Check out why we were outraged at Perez’s  nomination for a TEEN CHOICE award.

We are happy to report Perez did NOT win the Teen Choice Award.

Perez Hilton organizing concert tour; Norwegian singer Ida Maria is first performer signed

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Couldn’t make it to All Points West? Perez Hilton has the perfect solution — come to his concert instead!

No, he won’t be the one singing.

Now that he is starting his own record label, the self-proclaimed “queen of all media” broke the news on his own blog Sunday that he is adding concert promoter to his many hats and putting together a lineup of acts for a concert tour.

His characteristically exuberant post reads that he’s “handpicked the hottest acts on the planet – from all over the world!” to play North America during September and October.

Most of the lineup (with one exception, see below) remains a mystery — but we’re guessing the Black Eyed Peas won’t be there.

The gossip writer reportedly got on the bad side of frontman will.i.am after making rude comments on his blog about fellow Black Eyed Peas singer, Fergie. But what began as a war of words has now became a major lawsuit.

Shortly after the venom spitting incident between Hilton and will.i.am, Hilton claims he was assaulted by the Peas’ manager outside the Much Music Awards in Toronto. Hilton is now suing Polo Molina for $25,000 in damages.

But his dust-up with what is currently one of the most popular bands on earth – judging from sales of their chart-topping album “The E.N.D” – has not dissuaded Hilton from his foray into the music industry.

On Monday, he announced the first act on his concert tour: Ida Maria, a throaty Norwegian singer whose debut album, “Fortress ‘Round My Heart,” was recently named one of Spin magazine’s top 20 of the year so far.

“Ida Maria throws herself into every song as if it’s all a big finale, which makes for an auspicious beginning,” the magazine wrote when they reviewed her album in March, giving it four-and-a-half out of five stars.

The magazine also called her “Courtney Love minus the bullshit plus more charm.”

Mr. Hilton writes of his musical protégé, “This feisty Norwegian brings a rawness and ferociousness to the stage that is completely captivating.”

Anyone in the New York area who doubts Hilton’s assessment can check Ida Maria out for themselves when she plays Maxwell’s, in Hoboken, NJ, this Thursday, August 13.

The other performing acts and tour locations will likely be announced within a few days, since Hilton wrote that pre-sale tickets will be available on Thursday, opening up to the general public “this coming weekend.”

I can’t hate on Miss Ida for aligning herself with Perez, she’s surely going to get some publicity from the partnership.

Called “Perez Hilton Presents . . . ” Hilton said he’s hoping all the shows will sell out and assures fans that the concerts are going to be “a big hit.”

Should Lil Wayne’s BET Award performance be banned?

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Young Money artists performed at the BET Awards, their song choices included overt sexual references with young girls dancing on stage including Lil Wayne’s daughters and her friends.

As we reported earlier BET responded to the public outcry against the Lil Wayne & Drake performance:

“BET Networks deeply regrets the performance by Young Money at the BET AWARDS ’09 (featuring Lil Wayne, Drake, Gudda Gudda and Mack Maine). We value and appreciate the feedback from our viewers and have edited Young Money’s performance for all BET Awards ’09 encore presentations.”

Huh? Help us understand why Perez Hilton is still a FOX Teen Choice Award Nominee.

Perez Hilton going soft?

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Perez said the negative reaction to his recent beef with will.i.am has made him re-look his back stabbing, ruthless, crap talking ways.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) reacted swifty to Perez’s “anti-gay slurs.”

These are vulgar anti-gay slurs that feed a climate of hatred and intolerance toward our community

Perez initially refused to apologize to GLADD, but has now issued a statement reaching out to the gay community.

In true irony, Perez says, “Words can hurt.”  This from a guy who draws nasty pictures on images of celebrities and hates on nearly everyone.

Perez says, “Words can hurt. I know that very well, from both sides of the fence. The other night in Toronto, after feeling physically threatened by a verbally abusive will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, I chose the most hurtful word I know to hurl at him. I was in an out-of-the ordinary situation and used a word that I would not utter under normal circumstances. I wanted to hurt him with the word I chose, not anyone else. Unfortunately, the one who got hurt was me and, subsequently, a lot of other people.”

Hilton goes on to admit he has been disgusted by the media reaction to the incident, and has vowed to take a more lenient approach when reporting celebrity news in the future.

He adds, “I have been extremely bothered by the reaction to my assault. Violence should never be condoned with such statements as ‘It’s Karma.’ In fact, several television and radio shows over the past couple of days echoed the sentiment ‘He had it coming’. Would they have said the same thing if I was a woman? Would I have ‘deserved it’ if I had been stabbed? I leave this traumatic experience as a person with more compassion.

We’re a little skeptical, Perez has turned his hate & disrespect into a very lucrative business.

Internet valuation tools estimate perezhilton.com is worth $5.25 Million USD, and estimates his site earns $7192.19 A DAY in ad revenue – that means advertisers are paying Perez nearly $2.5 million a year for the hate and drama he spews on his site.

Let’s see what happens if his more compassionate reporting results in lower operating income.

Perez Hilton win Court ruling

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Hollywood gossip Perez Hilton, aka Mario Lavandeira, the queen of the knockoff disguised as parody. So why is he suing PerezRevenge to get it to change its name?

Lavandeira has won a case against PerezRevenge, a gossip site which styles itself as an antidote to Hilton’s “meanness.” U.S. District Court Judge Gary Feess has ordered the blog’s owners, Margie Rogers and Elizabeth Silver-Fagan, to stop using the PerezRevenge name, turn over the site to Hilton, and desist from “using the term ‘Perez’ to designate any platform, medium, and/or website that contains entertainment or celebrity news or gossip.”

Which is laughable, when you think about how Hilton got his start. He first blogged on a site called PageSixSixSix, until he got a nastygram from the New York Post, which objected to his free-riding on the name of its famous gossip column. Lavandeira then came up with his play on the name of the famous hotel heiress, and became Perez Hilton. He also routinely doctors celebrity photos, arguing that sprinkling cocaine dots on them is a transformative use, entitling him to publish them. A couple years ago, several photo agencies disagreed and slapped him with lawsuits. Still, it’s all fun and fair. It seems like he’s just upset that someone else has joined in on the game.
