UNIVERSAL CITY, California – Eminem is back. Selling an impressive 608,000 copies in its first week, his latest album Relapse announced the rapper’s comeback in a big way. And now, to further cement his return, Eminem will be hitting the MTV Movie Awards stage, for one of his first live-TV performances in years.

Eminem had a top-secret, closed-door rehearsal at the Gibson Amphitheatre late Saturday night for Sunday’s show, and MTV News’ Sway caught up with the Detroit MC on his way in to the theater to talk about his recent success and what has surprised him lately.

“I don’t know if anything’s really surprised me,” he said. “More so, I’m happy about the response the record is getting. I’m glad people have caught on to the concept.”

After his bumpy road with substance abuse, Em has some less harmful ways to get pumped up for a performance.

“Lots of alcohol and lots of prescription medications used to be the ingredients,” he told MTV News. “But now, it’s Diet Coke and Red Bull.”

Em, who is no stranger to movies, having starred in the acclaimed “8 Mile,” said he’s considering a return to the silver screen. “For a while, I guess, I wasn’t ready,” he said. “But I’m ready now. I’m just looking for the right script.”

Eminem will take the stage during Sunday’s show, which kicks off at 9 p.m. ET.

Eminem lashes out against mom Debbie Mathers Briggs in Relapse

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

eminem-relapseEminem uses his new album to blame his mom Debbie Mathers Briggs for his drug addiction.

Relapse — the rapper’s first collection for five years — leaked on the internet on Thursday night, 11 days before its official release.

It is third track My Mom that will get tongues wagging.

The rapper who famously struggled with a dependence on painkillers, raps: “My mom loved Valium and lots of drugs. That’s why I’m like I am because I’m my mom.

“There’s no one quite like my mom. I know I should let bygones be bygone but she’s the reason why I’m high on what I’m high on.”debbie_mathers_briggs

The lyrics then claim Debbie — who he also blasted on 2002 Top Ten hit Cleaning Out My Closet — would sprinkle Valium on his steak and force feed him another drug before packing him off to school.

Elsewhere on the comeback album Eminem is back in familiar territory, fantasizing about murdering starlets such as Lindsy Lohan and Britney Spears in Same Song And Dance.

On Insane he tackles child abuse, rapping as a young boy &  being molested by his stepfather.

TV drama The Wire’s McNulty, aka Brit actor Dominic West, appears on the album, he plays a doctor discharging the rapper from a rehab facility in the opening spoken-word skit.
