Lindsay Lohan risked being sent to jail on Tuesday after a Beverly Hills judge heard that the has been actress had missed more than nine alcohol education classes imposed for a 2007 drunk driving arrest.
Lohan, 24, dressed demurely in a black top and dark pants, listened as an official from her alcohol education program testified that the once promising movie star sent in excuses for missing her court-ordered classes that ranged from the death of her uncle to being stuck in North Carolina .
“I believe she had nine absences altogether” between December 2009 and July 2010, Cheryl Marshall co-owner of the Right On program testified at a court hearing into whether Lohan had violated her probation..
Tuesday’s hearing stemmed from a 2007 drunken driving and cocaine arrest. Lohan spent 84 minutes in jail that year as part of her sentence and was given three years probation.
Her career, at its height during the 2003 and 2004 movies “Freaky Friday” and “Mean Girls”, has since gone rapidly downhill. By age 20, Lohan was already attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and she went to rehab three times in 2007.
Last October, her probation was extended for a year after the actress used what prosecutors termed “very creative” excuses for missing several earlier classes.
Beverly Hills Superior Court judge Marsha Revel warned Lohan in October to take her probation seriously, and in December 2009 made clear that she must attend the alcohol education program on a weekly basis.
If Revel decides Lohan has violated that requirement, she could sentence the actress to jail on Tuesday, or impose new conditions on her freedom.
Revel has made clear she is losing patience with Lohan, briefly issuing two arrest warrants for her in May and June.
The first came when Lohan missed a probation review hearing after claiming to have lost her passport at the Cannes film festival, and the second after the actress’ alcohol monitoring anklet went off following the MTV Movie Awards.
Revel on Tuesday declined to address the issue of the alcohol monitoring device’s signal, which indicated Lohan had been drinking at a party following the Hollywood awards show.
The judge ruled that wearing the device was part of the bail conditions imposed on Lohan for missing the May court date, but was not a part of her 2007 probation.
Lohan protested via Twitter at the time that she had not been drinking.
