A whirlwind discovery and extreme ‘fandemonium’ surrounds 15-year-old R&B / Pop freshman Justin Bieber. While out promoting his recently launched album My World Justin caused a near riot at Long Island’s Roosevelt Fields Mall.
The 3,000 screaming fans caused such ‘fandemonium’ Justin was unable to appear and several police units were dispatched. James Ropo, VP of Island Def Jam, was arrested for hindering police crowd control efforts – charges which allegedly include Ropo’s refusal to ‘tweet’ a request for fans to go home.
About the situation Bieber says, “It was so crazy that I couldn’t get to even come in the building. They [the authorities] basically threatened to put me in cuffs and send me away to jail.”
His love of music compelled Canadian born Justin to teach himself various instruments so he could cover various popular songs.
Justin & his mom began posting Justin’s cover versions of popular songs on YouTube so his extended family could watch him perform. Scooter Braun, Justin’s now manager happened upon his YouTube & MySpace content. Braun saw in Justin a potential commercial gold mine.
Braun flew Bieber to Atlanta to consult with Usher who then linked Bieber with L.A. Reid of Island Def Jam Music Group. Soon thereafter Bieber signed a record deal with Island.
Bieber’s first album My World, was released on November 17, 2009. The album features guest vocals from Usher, who appears in the music video for the single “One Time”.
The first single “One Time” reached number 12 in Canadian Hot 100 during its first week in July 2009, and number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. On September 26, 2009, “One Time” had gone Platinum in Canada. The single has also been certified Gold in the U.S. by the RIAA Three consecutive singles, “One Less Lonely Girl”, “Love Me”, and “Favorite Girl” were released exclusively on iTunes and charted within the Top 40 in the U.S. and within the top 15 in Canada.
