A little over a month after performing on stage with Adam Lambert during the “American Idol” Season 8 finale, KISS frontman Gene Simmons has claimed the runner-up put his career in jeopardy by announcing he was gay.
In a recent interview with AOL Television to promote the return of his A&E reality show “Gene Simmons Family Jewels,” Gene said Adam’s decision to come out has effectively stopped the handsome 20-something’s career in its tracks.
“He’s enormously talented, best talent ‘American Idol’ has had, but I think he killed his career because now conversation is not about his talent but about his sexual preference,” Gene said.
Shortly after “Idol” wrapped up, Adam came out in a cover story for Rolling Stone magazine — although, by his own admission, Adam joked he was “never really in” the closet. But Gene believes some people won’t be able to get past Adam’s revelation about his sexual preference.

And, oh yeah – He could be seen out with women, to pimp his image as a straight, while carrying on his true romances in secret locations. All you Gene Simmons naysayers sound as if perhaps you are either young and naive, or sitting in the closet yourself and feeling a little defensive.
Gene Simmons is a music legend and has probably just about seen it all. Until you gain the experience and wisdom of his years as a top musical act throughout the world then maybe you can write his opinion off as “old fashioned”. Until then try to name 5, or no just 3 American Idol contestants who have literally taken the music industry by storm and remain relevant today…. thats a huge hill to climb and he’s not doing his career any favors by disregarding a huge portion of his fan base, and that’s the young, heartthrob loving teenage girls! Think about it before getting all hetero-phobic on everyone.

Gene you are living in the past. I am 71 and a big fan. I do no care if he were purple, his sexuality is nobody's business. He is the best talent that AI has ever had on the program and he will go far. He is a star!!!
American Idol is complete bullshit, they have people on there who absolutely suck! No one should care about his sexual preference, but anyone who uses American Idol as a springboard toward fame sucks in my book. Crystal Bowersucks this year had a good voice, but is definitely not an idol of any sort. There were kids in her hometown wearing shirts that said “Your my idol”. #1 it would be You’re my idol, not “your”. #2 She is 20 something years old and has a child out of wed lock. What kind of idol is that? Do you want your kids looking up to someone who couldn’t keep their legs closed or at least use birth control, her boyfriend or her one night stand whatever it was didn’t even stick around to be a father to the child. American idol isn’t on television to help start careers, it is on to make the producers, judges, and FOX television network money. They could give a rat’s ass if the winner goes on to produce any music. Most people who are on the show end up making pop music or other sorts of music that aren’t real art, just capitalistic crap. There is o artistic value to having some write a song for you to sing just to make money. I hate American Idol and anyone who likes it, that being about 50-60% of society. I truly hate about 85% of society, because they are money hungry jerks who care about nothing but themselves. past generations have had their issues, but the younger generations are really starting to scare me. I am 25 years old and have very low expectations for the future of this country. Children are being less educated than in the past. They cannot even form a proper sentence or spell words correctly. Kids now a days are too materialistic and aren’t concerned with matters that are of true importance. All in all American Idol is just a smart part in the big picture of the downfall of society. I just want to know why people are so concerned with a stupid tv show instead of worldly matters. I am disgusted with parents and what they allow their children to do. Society in general is so concerned with how they look instead of how they change the world for the better, it just sickens me!

PLEASE TRY AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD! Volunteer for a youth group, read more and educate yourself or your offspring. Do whatever you can to turn society around and help people realize the error of our ways. Even if you just help one person who is down on their luck, you have played a small part in making the world a better place.

I agree with the 71 year old gentleman that someones sexual preference is nobodies business….then why do so many homosexuals make it a point to let everyone know about it? As if we honestly give a shit that they indulge in fecal laden lasciviousness? Very boring. You don’t see any straight people making comments on their sex lives to the general population because it’s personal, and that would just come off sounding presumptuous and shallow. You people are stupid. Gene was just telling the truth. I for one would never listen to music from gay singers. I don’t fucking care if he’s the next Elton John (whose music i stopped listening to as soon as i found out he was gay). Gay guys disgust me and no way i would ever listen to their songs.
