Rihanna is to make her acting debut in the new movie Battleship.
The film is based on the classic board game, where players try to sink each other’s ships by working out which squares they are occupying.
The movie is slated for release in America on May 25 2012, and it will reportedly start shooting on August 30 this year in Hawaii.
Battleship will be directed by Peter Berg, who previously helmed superhero movie Hancock.
True Blood actor Alexander Skarsgard and Taylor Kitsch will star as brothers who must protect the world from invasion.
Both will play naval officers, although Taylor’s character will be wilder than Alexander’s.
Scenes will be filmed on land, in water and in the air. It remains unknown what Rihanna’s role in the movie will be.
The 22-year-old has made no secret of her desire to make it on the big screen. She is rumoured to have taken acting lessons in the past, and discussed her plans to star in films earlier this year.
“There is so much I want to do. I would love to try my hand at acting. I just want to keep getting better,” she said.
“I’ll hopefully be making movies and having something to do with fashion as well as making music in years to come.”
