Phil Collins Retires from making Music

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

Citing health problems, Phil Collins the Genesis drummer and vocalist is calling it quits from the music biz. Phil says that years of hunching behind his drum kit has left him with a lot of medical problems, from hearing loss to a dislocated vertebra, and nerve damage in his drum playing hands make playing painful.

Phil Collins’s career has brought him 7 Grammys, 13 hit singles, , and even an Academy Award for his work on the Disney musical movie Tarzan, winning in 1999 for best original song. “I’m sorry that it was all so successful. I honestly didn’t mean it to happen like that. It’s hardly surprising that people grew to hate me,” he said.

Phil Collins now lives in a small town in Switzerland now, attempting to distance himself from the music scene. The report that he’s calling it quits from the music business just seems to make his actions official. “I don’t really belong to that world and I don’t think anyone’s going to miss me. I’m much happier just to write myself out of the script entirely,” Phil said. Today’s world of MTV Music Awards and artists who care more about celebrity status than making music make the choice easy, he says.

Axl Rose accuses Ex-Manager of Sabotaging Guns N Roses

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose has filed a countersuit against his former manager, claiming Irving Azoff and his company, Front Line Management, attempted to sabotage Rose’s “new” version of GNR so he’d reunite with Slash and the band’s classic lineup.

According to gossip site TMZ, Rose alleges in his $5 million countersuit that Azoff was “devising and implementing a secret plan to set up Rose and the band for failure so that Rose would have no choice but to reunite with the original Guns N’ Roses’ members,” a move Axl had resisted. Rose also took issue with Azoff’s decision to file his original lawsuit against William Bailey, the singer’s real name something that “carries significant emotional damage from Rose’s childhood.”

Azoff filed suit against Rose in March, claiming GNR owed his company $1.8 million, an amount equivalent 15 percent of the gross revenue earned by the band during its run of tour dates through Asia, Canada, and South America in support of their 2008 comeback album Chinese Democracy.

According to TMZ, Azoff who also serves as CEO for Ticketmaster has already responded to Rose’s countersuit: “On advice of counsel I cannot respond at this time, but will discuss in my upcoming book, My Life with William Bill Bailey.”
