MTV had threatened to replace The Situation on “Jersey Shore”

Monday, April 2nd, 2012

MTV had threatened to replace The Situation on “Jersey Shore” many times over the past two years due to his excessive drinking — sources connected with the production tell TMZ. According to sources, producers from MTV and 495 Productions sat Situation down for the first time while shooting Season 2 in 2010 — explaining his drinking had become such a problem … it was making it hard to shoot the show. We’re told Sitch promised to pull himself together — but it quickly unraveled during Season 3, and producers had to speak with him again … this time threatening to replace him on the show if he didn’t clean up his act. Sitch agreed again — and made a concerted effort to reel in his bad habits between Seasons 3 and 4. We’re told Situation showed promise in Italy during Season 4, but once the crew got back to the States … he was back to his old ways. This prompted another sit-down … and another threat of recasting. Now, MTV’s got the opposite problem — Situation’s in rehab and sobering up completely. As a result, sources tell us 495 Productions is looking for new castmates to add to the show … in the hopes of phasing Sitch out entirely. We reached out to MTV for comment … which insists, “There are no plans to replace the cast of ‘Jersey Shore.’”

‘Hunger Games’ Soundtrack Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200

Saturday, March 31st, 2012

“The Hunger Games” soundtrack debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, having sold 175,000 copies in its first week according to Nielsen SoundScan. It’s the first theatrical film soundtrack to top the chart since ” Michael Jackson’s This Is It” bowed at No. 1 on the list dated Nov. 14, 2009. “The Hunger Games” is the first multi-artist film soundtrack to reach No. 1 since one week before Jackson, when “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” rose from No. 2 to No. 1 in its second week on the tally. All told, “The Hunger Games” is only the 16th soundtrack to debut at No. 1 in the history of the Billboard 200 chart. (Those soundtracks include film, TV and straight-to-video efforts.) “The Hunger Games” set boasts an array of artists, including Taylor Swift, the Civil Wars, Arcade Fire, Maroon 5 and Miranda Lambert. It’s the companion album to the film of the same name, which grossed $152.5 million at the U.S. and Canada box office last weekend (March 23-25).

Current TV fires Keith Olbermann 2nd time he has been fired in 2 years

Friday, March 30th, 2012

Current TV said on Friday it liberal news anchor Keith Olbermann after one year with the progressive public affairs network, accusing him of breaching his contract and trying to sabotage the TV channel. But Olbermann, in a series of Twitter postings on Friday, fired back at his former bosses saying Current’s statements were untrue and vowing to take legal action. The outspoken liberal, who hosted a one-hour prime time show on Current, clashed with network executives earlier this year over coverage of the 2012 U.S. presidential election campaign. Former U.S. vice president Al Gore and partner Joel Hyatt, who founded Current in 2005 as an alternative to corporate controlled media outlets, announced Olbermann’s departure in an open letter.
