Adam Lambert Inspired To Audition For Idol On Acid Trip

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

Kissing a dude isn’t the only controversial thing Adam Lambert did while he was at Burning Man. In a recent interview, Lambert admitted that he got the inspiration to audition for American Idol while on an acid trip.

The UK site Metro talked to Lambert about several different, completely disparate issues, but buried at the very end and out of nowhere is the question”If people are lacking purpose in life would you advise them to take LSD?”, to which Lambert responds “Sure, it’s one method of finding yourself. My trip led me to some epiphanies about who I was as a performer, what I wanted to do and how I needed to create my own opportunities. When I got home, I started writing music with other people and went to the Idol audition. The vision was about finding opportunities. I wasn’t sitting in the desert in rave-wear thinking about Simon Cowell when I was on acid.”

The comment no doubt will get Lambert in hot water with his detractors and the anti-drug crusade but it’s not like he’s saying it to sound cool. If he wanted to sound cool, he wouldn’t have admitted to wearing rave-wear.

ABC’s “Good Morning America” has canceled Adam Lamberts show

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

NEW YORK, NY — Access Hollywood has learned from a rep for Adam Lambert that ABC’s “Good Morning America” has canceled the singer’s live morning show concert Wednesday morning.

An ABC News spokesperson tells Access, “Given his controversial live performance on the AMAs we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning.”

Adam has already performed on “GMA” before. He was a part of their summer concert series last August.

Before the “GMA” cancellation, the “American Idol” season eight runner-up was already booked to perform pre-taped on CBS’ morning show, “The Early Show.” CBS has now announced that Adam will perform live on Wednesday, November 25. CBS says he will also, “discuss his recent controversial ‘American Music Awards’ performance.”

On Monday, Adam pre-taped a performance for the “Late Show With David Letterman,” which will air on Wednesday. Other future TV appearances for Adam include Ellen DeGeneres’ show on December 1.

Following his racy performance on the American Music Awards on Sunday, reaction was split over his performance – many fans favored Adam’s open artistic expression, while many concerned folks condemned it. Still others criticized it for just being too pitchy and off-key.

ABC received around 1,500 negative comments regarding Adam’s AMAs performance, which is considered “moderate.”

However, the Parents Television Council (PTC) does not think “GMA” should have canceled Adam’s performance. Dan Isett, Director of Public Policy for the PTC tells Access, “I do think it’s a little bit unfortunate. This is not a personal crusade against Adam Lambert.”

“The idea that he should be scrubbed from TV completely is not where we’re going,” Isett continued. “It may be a bit of an overreaction on ABC’s part. The important thing is that networks have the easy ability to air on a delay to prevent this sort of thing.”

But the PTC felt differently about Adam’s appearance on the AMAs. Lambert “chose to treat American families to simulated oral sex and other demeaning behavior,” Tim Winter, president of the PTC said on Monday.

Winter continued, “ABC and Dick Clark Productions had every reason to know what to expect, as Lambert himself proclaimed that his performance would be ‘very sexy’ and would include leather and chains. But the producers and the network chose to bury their heads in the sand.” The PTC is working on a new statement today regarding “GMA’s” decision to cancel Adam.

Michael James wrote, “Ok so… It’s ok for Michael Jackson to grab is crotch for 20+ years. But it’s not ok for an openly gay male to do the same? Not only is it discriminatory as he said, it’s a little sexist, mixed with a little homophobia. He did nothing wrong.”

Yet Rocio Chavez wrote, “he over did it!!! he just embarresed (sic) himself!!!”

Reaction amongst AccessHollywood.com readers is mixed. 54% of the AH Nation thinks, “Yes, (Adam’s performance) was too racy for primetime TV. While 46% thinks, “It was great entertainment.”

Gene Simmons On Adam Lambert Coming Out ‘He’s Killed His Career

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

A little over a month after performing on stage with Adam Lambert during the “American Idol” Season 8 finale, KISS frontman Gene Simmons has claimed the runner-up put his career in jeopardy by announcing he was gay.

In a recent interview with AOL Television to promote the return of his A&E reality show “Gene Simmons Family Jewels,” Gene said Adam’s decision to come out has effectively stopped the handsome 20-something’s career in its tracks.

“He’s enormously talented, best talent ‘American Idol’ has had, but I think he killed his career because now conversation is not about his talent but about his sexual preference,” Gene said.

Shortly after “Idol” wrapped up, Adam came out in a cover story for Rolling Stone magazine — although, by his own admission, Adam joked he was “never really in” the closet. But Gene believes some people won’t be able to get past Adam’s revelation about his sexual preference.

Adam Lambert breaks new ground says expert

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

http://hostphotofree.comNew York University brainiac says “American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert broke new ground confirming he’s gay at the start of his career.

Lambert, 27, recently disclosed his sexuality in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine.

While other celebrities have disclosed their homosexuality after becoming popular, Lambert is one of the first to do so just as he is beginning his life as a rock star.

“There is something very contemporary about it — the fact that he is speaking openly about his sexuality, defusing it at a very early point in his career, making his calculation that he is going to be able to be a big success,” Tavia Nyong’o, a professor of performance studies at New York University who studies race and sexuality in the arts, told the Globe. “He’s doing something very new and uncharted in pop culture.”

Did ATT affect Idol vote

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

american idol kris adamAT&T, a corporate sponsor for “American Idol,” provided supporters of Kris Allen free tutorials on text messaging their votes, detractors of the practice said.

Allen won the singing competition last week.

News reports say fans of runner-up Adam Lambert have complained in online forums that AT&T participated in two “AI” viewing parties in Allen’s native Arkansas and showed people how to power text, that is, send 10 or more text messages by pressing a single button.

The phone company did not, however, offer such services to Lambert’s followers, critics complained.

“In Arkansas, we were invited to attend the local watch parties organized by the community,” an AT&T spokesman said in a statement issued to The Times.

“A few local employees brought a small number of demo phones with them and provided texting tutorials to those who were interested.”

The newspaper said officials of Fox Broadcasting, which airs the show, declined to discuss the matter.
